Bridging the gap between traditional and digital B2B marketing is something we know a little about.
If you are reading this you are either really bored, have some extra time on your hands or you are our kind of people who likes to do their research. After all history is important so long as it is the accurate cross-referenced truth. In our case we care about accuracy and truth, because it is a lot easier to defend from would be detractors, saves time and costs a heck of a lot less.
When Sigma Creative founder, Christian Adams graduated from high school in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and began attending Ohio University in Athens, OH to study video production he was surprised to find that the curriculum being taught to his contemporaries were extracurricular activities he had experienced and mastered in high school. Feeling less than challenged for the next two years, Christian happened upon a copy of Adobe Photoshop 4 and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Through the power of the original “social media” Christian taught himself graphic design and web design to the point where he became a moderator teaching other digital creatives the versatility of the fairly new medium.
The real lightbulb or aha moment came when he joined a fraternity that was off campus and off fraternity row. Location, Location, Location, right? The fraternity quickly became the guinea pig for Christian’s graphic design and website design experiments. He realized the power of being able to recruit and increase new membership signups from a distance and at a low cost. Something that seems to be the norm in internet marketing today, but was unheard of back then. The name of that fraternity was Phi Kappa Sigma and where the part of Sigma in Sigma Creative comes from because many of the brothers, like Christian, were in school studying traditional marketing communications. These days we know it better as new media marketing, content marketing, digital and inbound marketing. Whatever you want to call it the founder’s of Sigma Creative saw the future of marketing and sales early on and have been adapting to new trends and best practices ever since.
After graduating from Ohio University Sigma Creative founder, Christian Adams was still honing his new found skill sets in graphic design and website development while working at the local ABC and FOX network news affiliate in Columbus, OH. In between nightly newscasts Christian was learning about a new form of website programming and development language called PHP. Unlike the HTML websites that proceeded it dynamic PHP websites were becoming popular because of the interactivity and engagement they created not to mention they were easier for a webmaster to administer. Because the idea of digital marketing was still so new to businesses Christian often won new business by simply explaining the advantages of how a smaller business could level the competition with very little marketing spend as potential customer’s eyeballs were shifting more and more to the new medium.
In 2007, Sigma Creative was officially formed and licensed by the State of Ohio to be a practicing LLC. Christian was growing his business and started to shift his focus from doing all the work to becoming more of a project manager. He started to focus on partnerships with other creatives, marketing and business development (sales) types. Many of these experts live and work in central Ohio, but many others are located on almost every continent around the world. In 2013, Sigma Creative went through its own rebranding phase that included a new responsive (mobile) website that was focused on improved copy and SEO strategy that kept up with Google’s ever changing algorithm. Sigma Creative quickly doubled its client base and the number of creatives it employs.
We currently work as a decentralized ad agency because our founder believes that there are several advantages over the traditional model including providing the best talent on a global scale no matter what the client location and the affordability it creates not only for Sigma Creative, but passing that savings on to our clients.
